Why spend the child’s time inside the school giving him answers that already exist outside? It’s a good question, but his suggestion to close the schools is somewhat unnecessary. A philosophical question has no definitive answer. This project for The Great Unthunk is ongoing. I am designing posters to jump start philosophical conversations by illustrating some provocative questions. They are not designed with any particular age group in mind.
Doing philosophy helps to develop confidence in articulating thoughts and good reasoning skills. It enables the practice of creative thinking. It diminishes conflict and cultivates a respect for different points of view, and gives a safe way to negotiate difficult subjects. It strengthens relationships and empowers participants to take control over what is happening in their lives.
